RED 5 PETER “TOLLY” TOLLEMACHE

Bundaberg 3-5 July 09 081

Peter is a former RAAF Hercules pilot, who during the Vietnam war, flew transports back and forth between Australia and Vietnam. He also amassed a wealth of experience on the beautiful big Lockheed birds, flying peacetime missions around Australasia.

After the RAAF, Peter took up a position with Cathay Pacific Airlines as a Senior Captain on Boeing 747-400’s. He has now moved on to China Airlines in Taiwan and still loves flying the big birds around Asia.

Tolly flies in the Russian Roolettes with his immaculately restored Nanchang CJ-6 that also has a M-14P engine. Originally restored and upgraded to 360 Hp by Red Star Aviation, it’s a shame that Peter’s busy schedule prevents him from flying his Nanchang as much as he would like. An interesting point about Tolly’s career is that he was one of only two RAAF pilot courses to do all their training on jet and turbo prop aircraft, making his Nanchang CJ-6 (Maiden China) the first piston engined aircraft he has flown.
